You open the fridge, the filter light is on, and you realize you have no idea which filter to buy. Search “everydrop filter” and you get Filter 1, Filter 2, Filter 3, Filter 4 and a long list of part numbers that all look the same.
The good news is that finding the right one takes about a minute, and you usually do not need your refrigerator model number at all. Here is the quickest way to do it.
Step 1: Look at the filter you already have
The fastest answer is printed on the filter sitting in your fridge right now. Open the filter compartment, take the old filter out, and look for a number on the label. You will see something like EDR1RXD1, W10295370A, UKF8001 or 4396841.
Where to look depends on your refrigerator:
- Upper right corner inside the fresh food section. Common on French door and bottom-freezer models. Filters 1, 2 and 4 often live here.
- Behind the base grille at the bottom front of the fridge. Filter 3 sits on the left side of the grille, and some Filter 1 models use the grille too.
Write the number down or snap a photo of the label before you throw anything away.
Step 2: Use the cap color as a shortcut
everydrop color-codes its filters, so the cap or label color is a quick sanity check:
| everydrop filter | Color | Common older part number |
|---|---|---|
| Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) | Purple | W10295370A |
| Filter 2 (EDR2RXD1) | Orange | W10413645A |
| Filter 3 (EDR3RXD1) | Aqua | 4396841, 4396710 |
| Filter 4 (EDR4RXD1) | Green | UKF8001 |
If your old filter has a different-looking number, do not panic. Many filters were renamed over the years, so one everydrop filter can replace several older part numbers. Each of our product pages lists the numbers that filter replaces.
Step 3: Do not mix up the numbers
This is the mistake we see most often. Filter 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not interchangeable. They have different shapes, different connections and different locking styles, so a Filter 2 will not fit where a Filter 1 goes, no matter how hard you push.
The same goes for brand names. Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir all use everydrop filters, but two refrigerators from the same brand can use completely different filter numbers. Go by the number on the filter, not the logo on the fridge.
What if the old filter is missing or the label is worn off?
It happens, especially if you bought the house with the fridge already in it. You still have options:
- Check the owner’s manual. The filter number is usually listed in the water filter section.
- Find the model number sticker. It is often on the inside wall of the fresh food section or on the ceiling of the fridge. The manufacturer’s website can tell you which filter that model takes.
- Ask us. Send the model number or a photo of the filter area to our support team and we will tell you which filter fits.
Buying tip: think in years, not filters
Each filter lasts about six months, so once you know your number it makes sense to buy more than one. A 2 Pack covers a full year and a 4 Pack covers two years, and both bring the price per filter down. You also skip the scramble the next time the light comes on.
